Edward W. Burdock, 82, of Monessen, went home to his Lord on Thursday Jan. 26, 2017 in Donnell House, Washington, PA. He was born on August 7, 1934 in Monessen, the son of the late Michael and Anna (Pendrick) Burdock. Ed was a 1952 graduate of Monessen High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 11 years as a supply sergeant. He was a dedicated member of the Covenant Christian Church in Belle Vernon, and was the church photographer. Ed was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a former member of the Monessen Elks 773 and its golf league, and St. Mary's Golf League. Years ago Ed worked for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. at both the Allenport and Monessen plants and drove bus for Greyhound Bus Lines. Ed's motto in life was to "protect and serve", and did exactly that when attained the position of police officer for the City of Monessen and served for over 27 years. Following his retirement, he won a bid to become Councilman for the City of Monessen and served for 8 years as Director of Streets. Surviving are his wife of over 61 years, Antoinette Cocciolone Burdock, a son, Dr. Edward M. (Carol) Burdock of Washington, IA; a daughter, Maureen (Michael) Yelletz of Monessen, five grandchildren, Jessica (James) Kindred, Makenna Burdock, Kelsey (Kevin) Brown, Michael Edward Yelletz, Chelsea Yelletz; four great grandchildren, Adam, Maverick, Reigna, and Hayden, and a special nephew, Thomas Rechichar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Michael Burdock, and by three sisters, Margaret Anderson, Pauline Burdock, and Betty Gallas. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Monday Jan. 30, 2017, at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Frank J. DePolo officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
