Mary Ann (Troth) Simkanich , 85, of Monessen, died Thursday March 9, 2017 in Monongahela Valley Hospital. She was born in Monessen on February 1, 1932, the daughter of the late Carl and Marie (Klauzinger) Troth. Mary Ann was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1950 graduate of Monessen High School. She loved attending her church, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monessen, and had taught Sunday school and vacation bible school. Mary Ann worked in the box office at the former Manos Theater in Monessen for many years. The most important part of her life was caring for her mum and many other family members. She was a baby sitter, Godmother, and nanny. She was an active person having enjoyed dancing, bowling, walking, swimming and even grass cutting and shoveling snow. Mary Ann was never at a loss for words and was a big fan of the game show Jeopardy, having watched it from when it first started. She loved entertainer Tom Jones and attended three of his live concerts. Family and friends always enjoyed her halupki and garlic meatballs, and no one made a better glass of lemonade. She is survived by a sister, Mildred Gibson and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Alfred, Andy, Karl, Julius, Adolph, Walter, Arnold, and Kenneth, and by four sisters, Elizabeth, Cecelia, Esther, and Louise. Mary Ann will be missed by her family, friends, and by Lucky her cat. Mary Ann's request was to have a private funeral, which was conducted by Pastor Matthew Stabe. She was laid to rest with her mum, pup, and brother Kenneth in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1317 Grand Blvd. Monessen, PA 15062.
