William DiMascio

William DiMascio, 87, of Greensburg, formerly of Monessen, died Tuesday December 6, 2016 in St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Gibsonia. He was born in Monessen on January 6, 1929, the last and ninth child of the late Nicholas and Philomena (Bernardo) DiMascio. Bill was a gymnast at Turner Hall in Monessen and placed first in Western PA at the age of 15. He was a professional diver in Pennsylvania and Florida in his early twenties and has always enjoyed dancing. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the US Navy from 1945-1948 on the USS Oakland. Bill had worked as a refractory specialist for numerous companies over the years. He had also owned his own business, A.S.T. Consultants, Inc. Bill married his late wife, Gwen Carnes in 1956 and they celebrated 49 years of marriage together. Bill and Gwen owned and operated the former Monessen landmark, Johnson's Restaurant for over 30 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, which includes his two daughters; Carna Jean Haller of Pittsburgh and Anet (Robert) Smurphat of Tarentum, six grandchildren; Rene' Davidson, Mark Callahan, David Shrager, Esq., Stacey Costanzo, Tracey Jones, and Ronald Yancec, 12 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Yolanda Diehl, Caroline Tortorice, Angeline Colonotonio, Helen Richwine, and four brothers, Dominic, Armand, Mario, and Cataldo "Cal" DiMascio. Friends will be received in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, on Friday, December 9, 2016, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Services will be held on Saturday Dec. 10, 2016 at 9:30 am in the funeral home with Fr. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Mid Mon Valley Shipmates will conduct a Two Bell Ceremony on Friday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.  Condolences accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com .
