Mike Magatz, 94, of Monessen, died Saturday January 4, 2020 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc. He was born on August 26, 1925 in Monessen, the son of the late Metro and Mary (Terletsky) Magatz. Mike was a life long resident of Monessen, a 1944 graduate of Monessen High School, and attended Douglas Business School and California State Teachers College. He served as one of the managers for the "Ozarks" softball team and later as Cub Master for Cub Scout Pack 509, based out of Holy Name Church in Monessen. He was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, a life member of the ULBA (Ukrainian Literary Beneficial Assoc.), Mon. Valley Leathernecks, and was a agent for 20 years with the Western PA Humane Society. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, having worked at both the Monessen and Allenport Plants in the Mechanical Department. Mike was a WWII combat veteran having served as a Sergeant with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Area, where he participated in the occupation of China in 1946. He is survived by his son, Glenn (Carolyn) Magatz of Lewisburg, PA, a daughter, Rita Ann Magatz-Koike of Bradenton, FL; a grandson Noah Koike of Bradenton, FL; and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Consetta "Connie" (Savarino) Magatz, two brothers, George "Gigg" Magatz and Muggsy Magatz. four sisters, Anna Petechuk, Tillie Upton, Mary Beresh, and Katherine "Katie" Chulig. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Thursday beginning with a Panachida at 9:30 am in the funeral home, followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, with Fr. Stephen Wahal officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. The Mon Valley Leathernecks will conduct a service at 7:00 pm on Wednesday in the funeral home.  Mike was an ardent animal rights advocate and requested memorial contributions be made to: Animal Advocates P.O.
