Anthony Volpe, 82, of Monessen, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 31, 2009 in the Emergency Room of Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc.He was born in Nicastro, Italy on October 29, 1927, the son of the late Guiseppe and Marietta Mascaro Volpe. Tony was a resident of Monessen all his adult life, and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy, MARS, and the Italian Society of Mutual Aid. Tony was a devout Catholic and devoted family man. He enjoyed gardening, vacationing at the beach with his family, and fishing. He was retired after 39 years of service from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, having worked as a Motor Inspector.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosina Tristani Volpe, his son, Joseph E. Volpe of Pasadena, MD, three daughters, Mary T. Sarnese of Rostraver Twp., Nancy L. Nawrocki and husband Steve of Parkton, MD, Julie A. Volpe-Walker and husband Richard Walker of Worthington, OH, eight grandchildren, Tiffany and Timothy Sarnese, Steve, Jake, Marina, and Anthony Nawrocki, Anthony and Marley Walker, a great grandson Blake Branthoover, two sisters, Maria Lucchino and Teresa Lucchino, both of Nicastro, Italy, and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Francesco Volpe.Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm, and on Wednesday from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Thursday Nov. 5, 2009, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. Court 776 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas will conduct a prayer service on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
