Antoinette (Ditta) Sawich, 88, of Monessen, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in St. Clair Hospital.She was born in Monessen on February 1, 1922, the daughter of the late Peter and Calogera (Pusateri) Ditta. Mrs. Sawich was a life long resident of Monessen, a graduate of Monessen High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Seton Hill University. She continued her education receiving her Masters in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. A home economics teacher, she taught at the Monessen High School and Frazier High School. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and its Epiphany Ladies, Catholic Women's College Club having served as president, Monessen Retired Teachers, Monessen Public Library Book Club, and the YMCA Book Club. She is survived by her three children, Philip (Betty) Sawich of Westerville, OH, Ninamary (David) Langsdale of Mt. Lebanon, Lois Ann (Steven) Kurth of Springfield, VA, six grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, and Scott Langsdale, Laura and Paul Kurth, Christina Sawich, three sisters-in-law, Eva Latkanich of Donora, Rosemary (Robert) Coufal of Laguna Woods, CA, Jean (Angelo) Ripepi of Monongahela, and by nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John P. Sawich, four brothers, Joseph, James, Louis and Daniel Ditta, and by two sisters Harriett Todaro and Mary Lemley.Friends will be received on Friday Jan. 21, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750 / www.dalfonso-billick.com). Services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011, beginning with 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church, 44 Pennsylvania Blvd. Monessen. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum, Monessen.The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill. 144 DePaul Center Rd. Greensburg, PA 15601.
