Bernard L. Sarra

Bernard L. Sarra, 81, of Monessen, died peacefully on Wednesday Sept. 20, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on January 31, 1936 in North Charleroi, the son of the late Bernard T. and Sara (Hagerty) Sarra. Mr. Sarra was a 1953 graduate of Bellmar High School and had worked as a superintendent in the shipping department of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Allenport Plant. He went on to work for Peter J. Schmidt Co. and had also co-owned and operated Bernie's Bar in Monessen. Mr. Sarra served his country in the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Epiphany Bowling League, Elks 773 and its golf league, and the Croatian Home. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Beatrice A. (Tobacco) Sarra, two sons, Bernard A. Sarra of Monessen, David T. (Suzanne) Sarra of Waynesburg, five grandchildren, Victoria Rose Sarra, Bernie Romeo Sarra, Dante David Sarra, Dominick Anthony Sarra, and Nina Maria Sarra, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving brother Joseph Sarra in 2012. Friends will be received on Friday from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Saturday beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 44 Pennsylvania Blvd. Monessen, with Fr. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Twp.
