Charles Eugene Assenat, 77, of Monessen, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at his residence.He was born in N. Charleroi on October 8, 1931, the son of the late Louis and Mary Girgenrath Assenat. He grew up in N. Charleroi, and was a 1950 graduate of Charleroi High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, entering the U.S. Navy in 1951, and was as a deep sea diver serving on the USS Horward W. Gilmore, the USS Penguin, and the USS Amberjack, a submarine. He has been a resident of Monessen since marrying his late wife, Mary Dolores (Reno) Assenat, and was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. He was retired from the Monessen Southwestern Railroad. Chuck enjoy square dancing with the "Grand Squares" and also loved to ballroom dance. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Louise Assenat of Edison, N.J., two sons, Charles A. Assenat and Stephen G. Assenat, both of Monessen, and by several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in by a sister Eliose Caldwell.Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Saturday March 7, 2009, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R.
