Christopher Campana, 52, of Chapala, Mexico, passed away unexpectedly during a stent procedure in Guadalajara, Mexico on Friday, April 4, 2014. The son of Ronald and Michaelene Campana, Chris was born in Monessen on June 12, 1961. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Ron and Luanne Campana, of Oxford, Massachusetts, a niece, Nicole, of Boston, and two nephews, Dominic, of Bloomfield, NJ and Brian, of Oxford, MA. Chris is also survived by his great aunt Norma Scalise, aunt Linda Campana, numerous cousins and good friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Julia Garofalo and his paternal grandparents, Jasper and Italia Campana. A member of the Monessen High School Class of 1979, Chris graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a major in visual communications in 1982 and CCAC in 1988. Chris then attended Carlow University, becoming a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Devoting his life to working with terminally ill patients, he worked as a RN on the oncology unit of UPMC and in 2003 accepted a position in the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Center in the cancer treatment unit. Chris served as the Vice Chairperson of Service for the Love of God, Inc., a charity that continues to put young people through school in the village of So-Ava in the Republic of Benin (South Africa). Chris loved to travel, being one of the few visitors to So-Ava since 2000 and visiting archeological sites throughout the world. He was fortunate to have been able to visit Europe, South America and the Middle East several times. Chris moved to Mexico in 2012 after retiring at the age of 51. He was devoted to his Catholic faith, attending Nuestra Senora del Carmen Parish. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at San Francisco de Asis on April 11. A memorial mass will be celebrated in the Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Monessen at the convenience of the family.
