Delio "Day-Day" D. Perozzi

Delio "Day-Day" Perozzi, 82, of Monessen, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2008 in Jefferson Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born on November 13, 1925, the son of the late Luigi and Annita Mignini Perozzi. He was a 1944 graduate of Monessen High School, and a veteran of World War II, having been drafted into the Navy from high school. He served from 1944-1946 on the destroyer tender USS San Pablo. Prior to his retirement, we was a partner in a soda pop distribution business, and then an employee of 34 years at Cherocci's Service Station in Monessen, where he became part owner for several years. He retired after 11 years of service with Power Piping Company in Donora, where he was a member of Local 354 Plumber and Pipefitters Union.Day-Day was an active member of the community. He was involved in sports, having played softball, basketball, golf, and bowling. He was an avid Steeler's fan and Monessen Greyhounds fan, being a season ticket holder for over 50 years. He was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Monessen where he was active in the Holy Name Society and sang in the church choir. He was a member and officer in the Knights of Columbus council 954, Monessen Investment Club since it's inception, Monessen Elks Golf League, Power Piping Golf League, and the Epiphany Men's Bowling League. He was also an active member of the former Monessen Sokol Club, Italian Society of Mutual Aid, Monessen Elks 773, Monessen Ravens Club, American Legion Post 28, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1190, Westmoreland Columbus 500, Mon Valley Shipmates and the Monessen Senior Center.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helene Susko Perozzi of Monessen, two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Loretta Perozzi of Baltimore; James and Kathi Perozzi of Monessen; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and David Gilotty of Fallowfield Twp., a sister Lucy Capacasa and a brother John Perozzi, both of Monessen; four grandchildren, Jamie, Christopher, Kristin and Jonathan Perozzi; one great-grandson, Dominic Perozzi and several nieces and nephews.Friends will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 pm and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Ave. Monessen (724-684-8750) Services will be held Wednesday, begining with a 9:30 am Blessing at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Monessen. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mon Valley Relay for Life, through the funeral home. Post 1190 and the American Legion Post 28 will conduct a joint service at 7:15 pm Monday, followed by the Mon Valley Shipmates Two Bell service at 8pm. The Knights of Columbus Council 954 will conduct services on Tuesday at 8 pm.
