HAZEL BROCK RONE - 1926-2025 - Monessen
“Her children arise and call her blessed” Proverbs 31:28 (NIV)
Hazel Brock Rone, 99, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, on August 5, 2025. Hazel graduated from Monessen High School in 1944. After graduation she worked at Christy Parks Works National Tube Co. in the Bomb Shop. Hazel was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Monessen where she held various positions and was an original member of the Calvary Gospel Chorus, singing for 72 years. Hazel would say her key to a long life was her love of God and family. Her love of children and gentle spirit led her to work at Monessen High School and SPHS Child Care Services where she gained the love of so many children in the valley, now adults, who never forgot her wise nurturing way, and like her grandchildren, lovingly called her “Ma Ma.” Hazel enjoyed being surrounded by family, loved listening to all genres of music and loved to dance. An excellent cook and baker, her family says she is known for “delicious sweet potato and apple pies, and her amazing cornbread stuffing.” Hazel was predeceased by her parents Anna Peerman, Joseph Brock, and stepfather Berry Peerman; her husband of 49 years Thomas Rone: sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Robert James; brother and sister-in-law James and Millie Thomas: and her daughter Toni Rone Johnson. Hazel is survived by her children Michele Rone Cooper (Dwayne); Terri Rone Pendleton; Thomas A. Rone (Kim); Jo Ann Rone Tyree (Russell); Valerie Rone-Osborne (Allen); Kevin R. Rone; Carla Crenshaw (Brett, Sr.) and Carlton Rone (Nina); nephews and niece, Robert James (Devorne), Leslee Carson and James Thomas Jr. (Tracy); 21 grandchildren Dawn, Russell Jr. (Nadine), Erik, Justin (Monica), Jennifer, Rico, Erika, Amanda, Morgan (Jim), Sabrina, Cameron, Shane (Dinorah), Maria, Lynette, Brett Jr., Keith (Alex), Shanice, Kyle (Kiara), Kevin, Thomas II and Lorenzo; and 25 great-grandchildren. Hazel was blessed with three generations of nieces, nephews and cousins and her special caregiver, Laurie Sutovich. In her later years, Hazel and her daughter Valerie initiated the “Be Kind Ministry” where they distributed hand-crafted bracelets throughout the Valley with the reminder “In a world where you can be anything, Be Kind.” Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Friends will be received Friday, August 8th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday August 9th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church 230 Reed Avenue, Monessen PA 15062.
