Herman Alesiani, 91, of Monessen, died quietly in his sleep on Thursday, May 14, 2009.He was born in Monessen on May 6, 1918, the son of the late Peter and Teresa Iluminate Alesiani. Mr. Alesiani was a life long resident of Monessen and a graduate of Monessen High School. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church, and was retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., having worked in the B.O.F. He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corp., 390th Bomb Group in Framlingham, England. Mr. Alesiani was a P.O.W. from Feb. of 1944 until June of 1945 having been held at Stalag Luft IV P.O.W. Camp, Germany. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Monessen and the American Ex Prisoners of War.He is survived by a son, Peter Alesiani of Monessen, three daughters and a son-in-law, Cynthia Alesiani of Pittsburgh, Teresa Ramsden of Savannah, GA, Patricia and Michael Collins of Kissimmee, FL, a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Barbara Alesiani of Spring Hill, FL, a sister, Ida Barch of Belle Vernon, six grandchildren, Scott, Patrick, and Lisa Ramsden, Sarah and David Collins, Leighton Collins and wife Ruth, and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Pauline Savarino Alesiani, a brother Alfred Alesiani, and a brother-in-law Joseph Barch.Friends will be received on Saturday from 7 to 9 pm, and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Monday May 18, 2009, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. The American Legion Post 28 will conduct services for their fallen comrade on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm.
