John Melenchen

John Melenchen, 84, of North Charleroi, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Seven Springs Golf Course in Elizabeth Twp. while golfing.He was born in North Charleroi on July 7, 1924, the son of the late Michael and Catherine Sepelchak Melenchen. John was a life long resident of North Charleroi, and a 1942 graduate of Charleroi High School. He was a member and Past Master of the Charleroi Lodge No. 615 F. and A.M., 32nd Degree Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, member of the Shiners of North America, North Charleroi Slavic Club, Charleroi Elks Lodge 494, a former member of the Lock Four Fire Department and had served as a North Charleroi Borough Councilman. He retired in 1982 with 31 years of service from General Motors Fisher Body in Dravosburg, where he was a senior electrical engineer. John was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Philippines during the Pacific Theater. John was an active person who was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and gardener.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elsie Kandrick Melenchen, a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Richard D. Mandarino of Rostraver Twp., a son, Gregory M. Melenchen of Alexandria, VA, a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Yadlosky of Monessen, a brother-in-law Victor Kandrick of Monessen, two nephews, John Yadlosky of Monessen and Michael Yadlosky of Lower Burrell, and by a niece, Pam Melenchen Lesko of Pittsburgh.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alex and Michael Melenchen.Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Monday Oct. 20, 2008, at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Fr. Gregory Peterson of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
