John C. "Jay" Sterback, 62, of Allen Park, Michigan, formerly of Monessen, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his home.He was born in N. Charleroi on December 26, 1950, the son of the late Stephen J. Sterbak Sr. and Margaret R. Check Sterbak. Jay grew up in Monessen and was a 1968 graduate of Monessen High School, a member of the former Most Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church and later the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. He attended Penn State University and American University before working at the family business, Check's Furniture Store in Monessen. He has been a resident of the Allen Park, MI area since 1994.He is survived by a brother, Stephen J. Sterback Jr. of Allen Park, MI, a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and William Mazzei of Spring Hill, FL, two nieces, Catherine Mazzei MD of Sacramento, CA, and Karen (Michael) Carnell of Newport, NC.Friends will be received in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, on Monday Feb. 18th from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19th, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church.
