John A. Zupan

John A. "Muscles" Zupan, 91, of Monessen, died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Monessen on June 2, 1923, the son of the late Adam and Katherine Priselac Zupan. John was a 1941 graduate of Monessen High School and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 194 and the Croatian Club. John had served his country with the Merchant Marines from 1942 to 1945 and with the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1950. He retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, having worked as a crane man. John was an avid fisherman and loved going camping with his family. He and his late wife Adele also enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and visiting friends and family. He is survived by two daughters, Katherine (Meredith) Nicolls of Norfolk, VA, Rose (Jeffrey) Wilson of Avon, IN, four sons, John M. (Jodie) Zupan, Adam W. Zupan, Thomas G. (Melissa) Zupan, Robert J. (Angie) Zupan, all of Monessen, a brother, Joseph (Helen) Zupan of Charleroi, a sister, Ann Kovalsky of Monessen, four grandchildren, Thomas A. Zupan, Robert J. Zupan Jr., Christopher J. Zupan, Gianna A. Zupan, and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Adele Boyd Zupan, and by a brother Jacob "Jack" Zupan. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen. Services will be held on Thursday, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett St. Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
