Joseph Dominick Petaccia, 81, of Monessen, died Sunday, May 19, 2013 in Hallsworth House.He was born in Monessen on June 6, 1931, the son of the late Joseph Petaccia and Mary Barbarossa Petaccia. Dom was a lifelong resident of Monessen, a 1949 graduate of Monessen High School, a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and Elks Lodge 773. He received his bachelors and master's degree in music from Duquesne University, and taught music and was band director at Belmar Middle School for 30 years retiring in 1992. Dom was a member of American Musicians Local 592. He was a pianist and lead vocalist of a local group, "The Continentals", who performed at the Inn America in New Stanton for many years. He was a member of the "McDonalds Coffee Club", gathering every day to enjoy friendship with fellow members. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955.He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen A. and Dr. Dennis F. Tolner of Monessen, two granddaughters, Melissa Elizabeth Tolner and Courtney Lynn Tolner, sister-in-law, Lia Petaccia of Monessen, nephew, Anthony A. (Dena) Petaccia of Monessen, niece, Danielle (Eric) Stecko of North Huntingdon, three brothers-in-law, Carl (Marguerite) Clegg of Bethel Park, Manuel (Mary Jane) Rodriguez of Vanderbilt, Angel Rodriguez of Bentleyville, five cousins, Antoinette Petrella of Jeannette, Dr. Emil Casino of Jeannette, Frank (Meredith) Dastolfo of New York, Rose Dastolfo of New York, Mary Esther Del Monte of California, and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean (Clegg) Petaccia, brother Anthony A. Petaccia, step father Alexander A. Petaccia, and sister-in-law Carol Lee Smith.Friends will be received in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Ave. Monessen, on Tuesday May 21, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Services will be held on Wed. May 22, 2013, beginning with a 9:00 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church.
