Leon "Leo" J. Karol, 83, of Monessen, died Tuesday, October 28, 2008 in Havencrest Nursing Center.He was born in Donora on January 29, 1925, the son of the late Stanley and Constance Karolski (Karol). Leo grew up in Donora and was a 1943 graduate of Donora High School. He has been a resident of Monessen for the past 42 years and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church, American Legion Post 28, and Polish National Alliance. He was a retired clerk, having worked at the former Auto Supply store in Monessen for twenty-one years. Leo enjoyed watching football, traveling, and visits to The Meadows Race Track. He served his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves from 1949 until 1955. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth Mandarino Karol, a brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Agnesmary Karol of Geneva, NY, two brothers-in-law, Robert Mandarino and wife Helen of Monessen, Raymond Mandarino and wife Dolores of Las Vegas , NV, two sisters-in-law, Caroline Post and husband Francis of Monessen, Mary Mandarino of Monessen, and by several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Henry, and Edward Karol, one sister, Helen Warzinski, and by two brothers-in-law, Ralph and Richard F. Mandarino .Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Friday Oct. 31, 2008, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. The following services will be held Thursday evening in the funeral home: American Legion Post 28 at 7:00 pm, and the Catholic B.P.W. at 8:00 pm.
