Monessen

Mary Ann Nescot Gallo, 87, of Monessen, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, with her husband, Joseph Gallo, at her side. Born in Lynnwood, Rostraver Township, she was the daughter of the late James and Delores (Britt) Nescot. In 1960 Mary Ann married the love of her life, Joseph Gallo. Together, they shared nearly 65 years of devoted marriage. She is survived by their son, Frank Gallo (Donna Devito) of Savoy, Illinois, and her cherished grandson, Dominic, who was the light of her life. Mary Ann is also survived by her brother, Jim Nescot (Jane) of Greensburg; nephew Jim Nescot (Meaghan) and their children Landon and Lucy of Beaver Falls; nephew John Lancas (Nancy) of Carbondale, Illinois; nieces Theresa Balistere (John) of Dorseyville and Dyann Panepinto of Pittsburgh; and great-nephew Nicholas Panepinto (Chris) of Glendale, California. She was preceded in death by her nephew Tom Panepinto, and sisters-in-law Marie Gallo, Amelia (Anthony) Panepinto, and Angela (John) Lancas. A 1955 graduate of Rostraver High School, Mary Ann began her career in the clerical department of the former Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. Encouraged by Msgr. Pirulli of St. Cajetan Church, she discovered her vocation as an educator, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from California University of Pennsylvania. She spent 31 fulfilling years teaching in the Monessen School District, instilling knowledge, curiosity, and compassion in generations of children. Beyond the classroom, Mary Ann was an avid genealogist, tracing family lines back to the 18th century and preserving treasured stories for future generations. She also had a deep love of travel. She journeyed to many places throughout her life, with fond memories of trips to Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Norway, the Czech Republic, Hawaii, and Alaska. Early in their marriage, Mary Ann and Joe made a memorable cross-country road trip visiting many states. Their love of scenic drives continued throughout their marriage as they spent significant time traveling through Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio. They especially enjoyed trying out local casinos, always hoping to hit the big one! Faith and service to the Catholic Church were cornerstones of Mary Ann’s life. A dedicated parishioner of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, she served as a lector, choir member, and active participant in Epiphany Ladies, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Catholic Women’s College Club. Upon completing her college education, she encouraged other young women to pursue college degrees through facilitating structured networks of support. Mary Ann often provided financial assistance to persons and organizations in need, regularly visited adults with disabilities living in care centers, and was committed to fostering understanding and respect among various faith traditions prevalent in the community. Mary Ann’s warmth, steadfast faith, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and students will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew her. Friends will be received at Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, on Monday, June 9, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Services will begin on Tuesday June 10, at the funeral home with a blessing service starting at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10 am celebrated by Fr. Paul Lisik at Epiphany of our Lord Church, Monessen. Interment will follow at St. Hyacinth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrf.org) in Mary Ann’s honor. The Epiphany Ladies and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 776 will hold a combined service at 2 pm on Monday and the Knights of Columbus Council 954 will hold a service at 6 pm Monday.
