Raymond Vagli, 87, of Monroeville, formerly of Monessen, died Thursday, October 29, 2009 in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville.He was born in Monessen on May 15, 1922, the son of the late Lawrence and Vertighe (Corti) Vagli. Raymond grew up in Monessen, and attended the DePaul Institute for the Deaf. He had been employed by Union Cleaners in Monessen as a delivery driver, and began working for U.S. Steel Research Lab in Monroeville, retiring with 20 years of service in the maintenance department. Ray has been a resident of Monroeville for the past 46 years. He was a member of North American Martyrs R.C. Church in Monroeville, a 37 year member of the Pittsburgh Association of the Deaf, a 50 year member of the Pennsylvania Socity for the Advancement of the Deaf, and a 25 year member of the Pennsylvania Deaf Senior Citizens.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred (Popovich) Vagli, his sister, Rosemary Hans of Monessen, a sister-in-law, Lillian Vagli of McLean, VA, a niece and three nephews, Robert Vagley and wife Holly of McLean, VA, Dr. Richard Vagley of Pittsburgh, William Hans and wife Kim of Monessen, Robert Hans of Monessen, Diane Yancoskie of Monessen, and by numerous great nieces and great nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Ida Vagli, and by two brothers, Bruno and William Vagli.Friends will be received on Friday Oct. 30th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750). Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in the funeral home, with Fr. David J. Nazimek officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
