Richard G. Swalin Sr., 69, of Rostraver Twp., died Saturday, December 6, 2008 surrounded by his family in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc..He was born in Monessen on May 16, 1939, the son of the late Elfing R. and Yolanda E. Dustolfo Swalin. Richard attended school and played sports for the Monessen High School where he lettered in football and graduated in 1957. Richard was as Honorably Discharged veteran, having served his country proudly from 1960 thru 1963 with the U.S. Army as a cryptographer during the Korean War. He was employed by the University of California as a Painting Supervisor for the past 20 years. Richard also worked for Westinghouse Electric of East Pittsburgh in LRA Specialized Coatings Department. He had an avid love for the great outdoors, especially fishing and he enjoyed driving his Mustang convertible as much as possible. Richard's favorite sports teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Florida State Seminoles. Richard attended the Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church in Monessen, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Moose, Lodge 209, and the American Legion Post 659, both of Belle Vernon. Richard touched the lives of many and will be sorely missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Connie Warzinski Swalin, his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Michael Indof of Rostraver Twp., a son Richard Swalin Jr. of Belle Vernon, a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and John Wassilchack of Apex, NC, a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis R. and Sharon Swalin of Monessen, two grandchildren, Aaron Michael and Sarah Elizabeth Indof, three nephews, Kevin (Lori) Wassilchack of Cumming, GA, Ryan (Pamela) Wassilchack of Apex, NC, Sean D. Swalin of Lakeland, FL, Great nephews, Ryan Wassilchack Jr., John Wassilchack Jr., Zachary and Brody Swalin, Great nieces, Sarah, Leah, Avery, and Arden Wassilchack, and Gabriela Swalin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son Jeffery.Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750). Services will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, beginning with a9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. The following services will be held Tuesday evening in the funeral home: Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 209 at 7:00 pm, American Legion Post 659 at 8:00 pm.
