Robert E. Schrag, 91, of Monessen, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 5, 2013. He was born in Toledo, OH on January 16, 1922, the son of the late Emil Schragenheim and Helen Goodman Schragenheim. Mr. Schrag was a 1940 graduate of DeVilbiss High School in Toledo and attended Miami University of Ohio prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. Bob served with the Medical Detachment of the 338th Engineers Regiment in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign, having received three bronze stars and WW II Victory Medal. Mr. Schrag was a member of Temple Beth Am, formerly Keneseth Israel, having formerly served as congregation president. He was a life member of the Monessen Elks 773, a member of Monessen Boy Scouts Council, former Chairman of the Civic Center Board of Directors, served as the Mon Valley Chairperson for U.J.F. of Greater Pittsburgh, volunteered for the Monessen Meals on Wheels program, participated in the Monessen High School Exit Interviews for Senior Class members, and was a former member of the Monessen Lions Club. Mr. Schrag was a retired manufacturer's representative for various furniture companies, and was proprietor of the former Kiddieland children's store in Monessen,.He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ruth (Stern) Schrag two daughters, Susan Schrag of Forest Hills, Loren (John) Vivio of Monessen, a son, Jonathan Schrag of East McKeesport, seven grandchildren, Benjamin and Daniel Vivio, Jason Schrag and Ashley Baumgarten, Stephanie, Heather, and Patrick Schrag, and a great granddaughter, Lia Schrag.Friends will be received in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Ave. Monessen, on Sunday June 9, 2013 from 10:00 am to 12 noon. A memorial service will follow visitation at 12 noon, with Rabbi Sara Perman officiating. Private interment will be in Beth Am Cemetery, Rostraver Twp.The Schrag family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made the Monessen Public Library, 326 Donner Ave. Monessen, PA 15062.
