Thomas F. Powlowsky

Thomas F. Powlowsky, 93, of Monessen, went to be with the Lord while in the arms of his wife Marge, on Monday March 23, 2015 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc. He was born in Monessen on December 29, 1921, the son of the late Michael and Petronella Shamitis Powlowsky. Tom was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1941 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and the former St. Leonard Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and on parish council. He was a former member of MARS and was a former Meals on Wheels volunteer. Tom retired from American Chain and Cable, Page Division in Monessen, with 29 years of service, and went on to worked for the Mon Valley Sewage Authority. While at Pages, he served as Treasurer, Chairman of the Safety Committee, and past Chairman of Political Action Committee for Local 1391. Tom was one of the delegates with the late Hugo J. Parente to escort former President Harry S. Truman to Monessen in the early 1950's. Tom's hobby was gardening. He always had an abundance of fresh vegetables that he shared with family and friends. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate and Steeler fan, having enjoyed watching all the games. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and kind and gentle spirit. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 34 years, Margaret S. (Stunda) Powlowsky, a sister, Margaret Valdiserri, sister-in-law, Freida Poloski, nieces and nephews, Deanne Powlowsky, Richard Powlowsky, Terry (Bill) Frederick, Lani D'Alfonso, Betty (John) Rhea, Jay Paul, Linda, and by several great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Tillie (Balluch) Powlowsky, four brothers, Val, Victor, Albert, and John, two nephews Eugene and Ken Powlowsky, and by a niece Nancy Matz. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Ave. Monessen. Services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church.
