Helen Regina (Hodgson) Mandarino

Helen Regina Mandarino, 93, formerly of Monessen, died peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday February 25, 2021 in Country Meadows Retirement Community, Bridgeville. She was born on January 17, 1928 in New Eagle, the daughter of the late Clyde R. and Helen (Luethke) Hodgson. Helen was a 1946 graduate of Monongahela High School and worked at Mitchell Power Station prior to marrying her husband, Robert J. Mandarino Sr. on January 25, 1950. After raising her four sons, she started working with her husband in the family business, Franks Service Garage in Monessen as parts accounts executive, retiring in 2010. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church and the former St. Cajetan Christian Mothers. She was an avid, lifelong Monessen Greyhounds football and basketball fan and Pittsburgh Steelers season ticket holder. Helen and Bob traveled in their Winnebago to all four Steeler Super Bowl victories in the 1970’s with their best friends Dick & Theresa Egidi, and Joe & Juliette DeLuca. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Gary A. "Gutch" Mandarino on Feb. 10, 2021, and by two sisters, Marjorie Dawson and Dolores Koch. She is survived by her three sons, Robert J. (Laurie) Mandarino Jr. of Wexford, John A. Mandarino of Bridgeville, William A. Mandarino of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Kristina (David) Mandarino Morgan of Shaler; a brother, Richard (Judy) Hodgson of San Diego, CA; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends will be received on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Monday March 1, 2021 beginning with a 9:30 AM Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church with Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. Those attending the viewing and services are required to wear a face mask and social distance. The family suggests memorials be made to Epiphany Church or Mon Valley EMS through the funeral home. Condolences accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com.
